Blackhawks Win In Overtime, Win Third Straight Game
The Chicago Blackhawks are starting to get into Stanley Cup form once again as they beat the St. Louis Blues last night in overtime by a score of 3-2 to give them their first three game winning streak of the season.
Marty Turco had a good game saving 32 of 34 shots while giving up the two goals. He also picked up his first assist of the season so he helped the cause in all aspects of the game. Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak played just as well, saving 30 of 33 shots but ended up taking the loss.
The Blues two goals came in the 2nd and 3rd period off of the stick of David Perron. It was his first two goals of the season and he is the only reason the Blues had a lead in the first place.
The Blackhawks were down all the way past the halfway mark in the 3rd period when Marian Hossa continued his point streak with his 6th goal of the season, this one coming on the power play. Less than 3 minutes later Hossa picked up his second goal of the night (7th on the season) and tied the game at 2.
The game would go into overtime where Patrick Kane would make a great cross-ice pass to Patrick Sharp, who would then score the game winner for a 3-2 Blackhawks win.
Sharp and Hossa are seriously the whole offense right now. It seems like whenever the Blackhawks need a goal or need some momentum, those two are the one’s bringing it. Hossa now has 7 goals and 11 points to lead the NHL and Sharp is right behind him with 6 goals, including 5 in the last 3 games. It’s scary how good these two are and if Patrick Kane or Jonathan Toews got just as hot, this could be the most frightening offense in the NHL.
I stated in my preview yesterday that this would be a hard fought game and that the Blackhawks would end up winning by a goal and that’s exactly what happened. This game was very hard fought but in the end Hossa and Sharp saved the day once again and gave the Blackhawks their third straight win of the season.
