Marian Hossa Out “A Couple Weeks” With Injury
To all my readers, I apologize for the absence of posts for every game. I’ve had those fun those fun things called midterms to deal with, so almost all of my time has been devoted to them for the past two weeks or so. On the plus side, they are finally finished, so I can get back to doing what I love, covering the Chicago Blackhawks. With that in mind, onto the bad news for the Blackhawks.
After being injured in the game against the Los Angeles Kings, it has been determined that Marian Hossa will miss up to two weeks with an upper body injury.
While the team hasn’t been any more specific as to the extent of the injury, it’s been determined that it is more than likely his arm or his shoulder.
It’s a big loss for the Blackhawks since Hossa has been playing extremely well since the beginning of this season, but Joel Quenneville believes this is a great opportunity to stress team defense, something that has been lacking from the Blackhawks so far this season.
“We have to tighten up defensively,” Quenneville said in response to losing Hossa. “That’s probably the best way, and everyone has to accept that responsibility of playing more of a team game. We had him out for most of the [Kings] game, and we found a way to come out on top.”
It’s going to be a bit rough the next two weeks, but if Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane can get on track, the Blackhawks will be fine. They already have Patrick Sharp and his NHL leading 9 goals, so if the other two guys can get scoring again then offense shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Defense, on the other hand, is an issue where we are just going to have to wait and see what happens.
