Blackhawks Cut Two Forwards, Roster Down To 31
The Blackhawks made two roster moves today, bringing their roster down to 31 players.
The Blackhawks cut forwards Hugh Jessiman and Ludvig Rensfeldt. Jessiman has been assigned to the AHL’s Rockford Icehogs while Rensfeldt is being sent back to his junior club, Brynas IF, in Sweden.
This leaves the Blackhawks with a roster of 17 forwards, 10 defensemen, and 4 goalies.

Preseason News: September 28th
So the hockey preseason is into full swing and the roster cuts are slowly being made. The Chicago Blackhawks have started out 1-2 in the preseason but have looked pretty good so far. The veterans of the team and pretty much doing all the work at this point but a few of the players fighting for a spot on the team have been impressing some people. <--more--!>
Jonathon Toews, Marian Hossa, Patrick Sharp, and Duncan Keith all have a goal through three games and seem to be getting back into form already. Marty Turco has looked good, giving up just 3 goals in the two games he has played in. Corey Crawford also stopped 33 shots in his one start this preseason and is giving the Blackhawks a good feeling about both starting and backup goaltenders.
Jeremy Morin, Brandon Pirri, Ryan Potulny, and Jack Skille all have a goal in the preseason as well and are improving their chances of being on the roster come time for the season.
Morin especially has been gaining the support of his teammates this preseason. Patrick Kane, Troy Brouwer, and Brent Seabrook all are backing Morin and have been impressed with his play and his attributes. Coach Q believes that a minor league stint would be good for Morin’s development but he also said some players do break into the NHL in a 3rd or 4th line position and then work their way from there so at this point anything is possible. One thing is for sure though, coaches and players both have the feeling the Morin is going to be something special, and that’s good news for the Blackhawks.
So with roster cuts coming in a week or so, things are going to get a bit more competitive amongst those worried about being cut. For guys like Hossa, Kane, Toews, Keith, and the rest of the players assured a spot, this is going to be a time to get fully ready for the season and defending the Stanley Cup. The spirit of hockey is in the air here in Chicago, and it won’t be very long before our championship banner is raised in the Madhouse on Madison and the sound of “Chelsea Dagger” is ringing throughout Chicago.
