Chris Chelios Finally Retires
Former Blackhawk Chris Chelios is finally retiring as a player from the NHL.
After a record tying 26 seasons in the NHL, Chris Chelios is finally calling it quits. After entering the league in 1984 with the Montreal Canadiens, Chelios played in Montreal for 7 seasons, Chicago for 9, Detroit for 10, and finally ending in Atlanta this past season.
Over the course of his career he played in 1,651 games, scored 185 goals, and totaled 948 points. He also won 3 Stanley Cups in his career, once with the Canadiens and twice with the Red Wings, most recently in 2008.
As much as he is affiliated with the Red Wings and is now working for the Red Wings in player development and being an ambassador for them, I’d like to see the Blackhawks honor him in some way. Whether it be retiring his number, giving a day to celebrate his career, just something to honor him. He’s a local boy, he helped lead the Blackhawks to the Stanley Cup final in 1992, he was the captain of the Blackhawks from 1995-1999, and he is no doubt a Hall of Famer and he deserves to be honored.
